What is a PATS System?

Before we jump onto the guide part, it is important to understand what a PATS system is. So, here we go!

Car theft is a common problem for decades. Imagine walking up to the spot where you parked your car only to find out that the vehicle is nowhere to be found.

Although car manufacturers have designed several security systems to prevent this theft issue, these security systems sometimes don’t work.

PATS is one of the most common security systems. It is a device fixed in the vehicle that automatically detects whether the key you are using is original or not.

In 1996, Ford was the first one to initiate this security system in its vehicles. Losing the original keys mean you do not have access to your car.

You may open the doors of your car, but the engine will not come to life. With the help of FORScan, you can set up a transponder key.

On the other hand, you can hire an expert to get a new transponder key for yourself if you don’t feel like doing it on your own.

Step-by-step Guide to Bypass Ford PATS System

You don’t have to worry if you have lost the car keys and now you cannot find them anywhere. This guide will help you disable the Ford PATS system to get in your car without seeking any professional help.

However, it is essential to note that this is not a permanent solution. Moreover, disabling the PATS system means your Ford will be unprotected against potential car thieves.

Once you have disabled the PATS system and got into your car, immediately get a new transponder key to enable the security system again.

Following are the steps to bypass the Ford PATS system.

Step 1 – What You Will Need

Following are the things that you need to disable the Ford PATS system:

Step 2 – Cut the Keys

The second step is to have the keys cut by a local dealer. This way, the new keys will be able to match the original keys as they are cut. Therefore, you can insert the key into the ignition and start the vehicle. You will not even need the chipped key to start the engine.

Now we will use the new keys to fool the machine into believing you are starting the car with the transponder key.

Make sure to have the keys cut if you want to use them from now on.

Step 3 – Take Out the Transponder

As now you have the new keys, be sure to remove the chip from the transponder.

With the help of this chip, you can fool the car that you are using the original key; hence, you can get access to the vehicle.

However, if you don’t have the chip, you won’t be able to start the engine.

Here are the steps to follow and take the chip out:

That’s great! Since you have removed the transponder from the original keys, it can now be used by the keys you just bought and cut.

Step 4 – Disable PATS System

The transponder is the only way for the car to realize you have the correct key, which is why we disabled it in the first place.

The transponder will be installed in the ignition so that the car knows you are not a thief.

When you insert the new keys with a transponder, the car will believe that you are using the original keys.

Following are the steps to mount the transponder:

You don’t need to worry if you don’t get the transponder in the right spot on the first attempt. It can take a few tries to get positioned in the right place.

You may even stimulate the theft light in the process, but keep trying until you find the right spot for the chip.

Advantages of Having Car Security Systems Installed

Ford Car Security System

Reduced Risk of Thieves: A thief would always choose an easy target, particularly vulnerable vehicles parked in public parking lots. Having a high-quality car alarm system mounted or even a security system’s alarm logo will discourage potential criminals. The sound of your alarm may frighten the thieves away.

Manual Alarms: Many alarm systems now allow you to beep or set off manual alarms, which is helpful if you’re having trouble finding your car in a parking lot. Your protection device can be triggered with the push of a button, alerting you to the location of your vehicle.

Smartphone Application: The majority of vehicle warning systems now have a mobile app. The user would be able to turn it off and on remotely as a result of this. It also gives you total control over your vehicle’s protection at all times.

Lowered Insurance Cost: Installing an alarm system in both newer and older model vehicles will also lower the auto insurance premium. When opposed to someone who does not have a protection device installed in their car, you can pay a lower price. When estimating your total insurance premium, insurance companies consider factors such as safety and protection. If the chance of auto theft is reduced, every insurance provider will typically lower your premium.

Increased Selling Price: If you want to sell your car, it is highly recommended that you install a high-quality vehicle alarm system, increasing the vehicle’s selling price. Many consumers would pay a premium for a motor that includes an alarm system. The customer would be more comfortable buying from you and parking the car in a public location.

Disadvantages of Car Security Systems

Theft Protection in Ford Cars

Expensive: Whether you install a hardwired or wireless security system in your vehicle, both can be quite expensive on your pocket. They need an initial investment, which includes the cost of equipment, installation, and a security monitoring service subscription.

False Alarm: These security systems are susceptible to false alarms, which occur when a member of your family enters a restricted area. Alternatively, the alarm can be activated by itself for no apparent cause.

Can be Stolen: Regardless of the type of burglar alarm you have, it is possible for it to be stolen from the place where it is mounted. Disconnecting wireless networks is simpler than disconnecting wired systems. The wired alarm systems can be quickly dismantled by certain burglars.

Conclusion

Although car security systems have a few drawbacks, they also offer several advantages to their users. More and more vehicle owners feel secure about their cars and have peace of mind.

On the other hand, getting a Ford PATS system disabled does not take a lot of your time or money. You can do this on your own, even without hiring professional help.

We hope that you find this guide helpful, and you will get rid of the car trouble you are having.

  1. So, if someone lost their keys, wouldnt they have lost the key with the chip they need to be able to use this bypass? This doesn’t make sense to me.

  2. Agree with Nathan. I have my original key and can get into the truck, while the alarm is sounding, but can not start the engine. New battery in key and battery under hood is hot. Now the truck is a the dealer, adding to their profit account…
